ROB SEZ: I've raved about the Australian band Even here in previous posts, and it's time for me to do it again. If you like your guitar-based rock in the classic 1960s and 1970s British mold — with hummable melodies and succinct guitar solos — I highly recommend you give Even a try. Start with the band's masterful 1998 album Come Again and explore from there. Even have a great new double-length long player Reverse Light Years, released in late 2020. Moshcam made a beautiful pro-shot film of one of the band's annual "Christmas Even" shows in late December. It's well worth paying to view HERE (you can sample a full-length song for free).

All the DJ intrusions have been removed, but I decided to keep most of the intro section. It includes a pretty good summary of the band’s history. HUGE thanks to Live Delay and Branko Cosic.

EVEN: playing together for 23 years.
Way past time for their music to be heard
ROB SEZ: WOW! I cannot believe my good luck finding this live set by Even in excellent sound quality. If you’ve been paying much attention to the blog this year, you know I’m a HUGE fan of this band. I'm posting this in the hope others will discover the musical treasure created by Ash Naylor & Co. If there’s only one new band you have time to check out, make it Australia’s amazing Even. A pretty good place to start: this video gallery of the band's singles (begin with 'Mayfair Laundry Bus', then move on from there). The bonus set is part of their opening slot for Midnight Oil in Wodonga earlier this month. It's a not bad audience recording that will please those who're already fans. It includes a previously unreleased new song, slated for the band's next studio album.

This one's for fans who want to hear a full-length live show; the better-sounding Triple J Radio set above is intended for the curious and new fans. Special thanks to Triple J Radio, zombos, peterdaicosisgod, baudmania & Even Addict for recording & sharing.
EVEN (L-R): Wally Kempton, bassist; Matt Cotter, drummer; Ash Naylor, guitarist + lead vocalist
ROB SEZ: I love — I mean LOVE — this criminally under-appreciated Australian band. If you like classic-sounding rock with pop melodies & strong lyrics (think mid-to-late 1960s era Kinks, Beatles & The Who), you owe it to yourself to check out Even. The Ash Naylor fronted, Melbourne-based trio have been around since 1994. They're still plugging along today, without the popular recognition they richly deserve. If you like what you hear, check out all their albums, especially 1998's Come Again — which is at least nine tenths of a masterpiece. It's a shame the fans have to look so hard for decent-sounding live sets by this band. Can you hear us, Rubber Records and El Reno? If you release a good-sounding live recording by this band, people like us will buy it.
