ROB SEZ: I will keep posting Peter Blegvad’s music until I run out of rarities and/or more people recognize his genius. So there!

TRACK INFO:
1-11 = Live show, Vinyl Feest (or perhaps Vinyl Party), Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 1984-04-21 (aud). Recording by Hans de Vente.
12-17 = Live session(s), WFMU, East Orange, N.J., some time in 1988 and/or 1989; webstream.
18 = Renfrew Ferry, Glasgow, Scotland, 1996. Thanks to ninelox.
19 = Alternate, non-album, version. Appeared on rare compilation Passed Normal, Vol. 4 in 1991. Thanks to devotionalhooligan.

Repercussion: I get the feeling Peter has been friends with Chris Stamey and Peter Holsapple for some time, but I don't know how they met, etc. Chris produced Peter B's wonderful King Strut & Other Stories album, on which Peter H did his multi-instrumentalist thing on several of its tracks (well worth seeking out, even though it’s out of print). Chris was a co-conspirator with Peter B in the Golden Palominos. Today, he and Peter H are active members of Radio Free Song Club (which you really should know about...) And one of the very coolest things I’ve ever posted is THIS live concert featuring Peter B’s music, with guest turns by Peter H and Syd Straw.

Peter Blegvad's latest is a collaboration with Andy Partridge (XTC) called Gonwards. It's very different and very cool. Highly recommended. They seem to have a YouTube video for every song on the album!

The Golden Palominos - Toronto 1987 + bonus

El Mocambo
Toronto, Ontario, Canada
April 1987 (from the "Blast of Silence" tour)

Repercussion: Lots of links between The dB's and The Golden Palominos: Peter H wrote "Diamond," one of the group's best songs (2 versions are featured here). Chris played bass on several of the group's albums and here, on the tracks from the Boston show. Longtime dB's friend Peter Blegvad wrote several GPs songs and sings some of them in these two shows. Another longtime dB's friend, Syd Straw, is the lead singer for many of these.

(Toronto show: audio rip from pro-shot video, sound quality VG+; Boston show: audience rec., sound quality VG-)

Peter Blegvad (& friends) - Brooklyn Heights, NY 1992 (FM)

Here's a gem of a concert by a friend of Chris, Peter and Syd Straw.
If you've never heard of Peter Blegvad, you're in for a New Music Find treat.
To my ears, he's something like an American version of Robyn Hitchcock crossed with
a more melodically-minded Bob Dylan.
I think this is one of the coolest shows I've shared here so far.
Leave a comment to let me know what you think of it...

MORE ABOUT PETER BLEGVAD

More info about Peter Blegvad's music can be found at AllMusic and John Relph's beautifully-detailed discography. I heard about him because of the Chris & Peter connection, and I've since bought several of his excellent albums, such as:
Chris Stamey produced this one & Peter H plays on many tracks
I get the feeling Peter Blegvad has been friends with Chris and Peter H for some time, but I don't know how they met, etc. Chris produced Peter B's wonderful King Strut & Other Stories album (mentioned in the above concert since many of the songs come from this album). Peter H did his multi-instrumentalist thing on several of its tracks. Sadly, King Strut is now difficult to find at a reasonable price in any format. Some benevolent music label honcho: please get this one back in print for the discerning music lovers of the world!
